MTG Spider Man

MTG Spider-Man: Release Date & The Latest Cards First-Look

MTG Spider-Man is set to make its debut in what has already been a standout year for Magic: The Gathering. Between the return to Tarkir, the dreamlike Edge of Eternities, and the record-breaking MTG—FINAL FANTASY set, 2025 has been a thrilling ride for fans of the multiverse. But Wizards of the Coast isn’t done yet. This September, Magic teams up with Marvel for one of its boldest crossovers yet: MTG | Marvel’s Spider-Man.

With beloved characters, villainous icons, and a bold mix of mechanics, MTG Spider-Man is swinging into Standard—and it might just stick the landing.Releasing globally on September 26, 2025, Marvel’s Spider-Man will be fully legal in Standard, Pioneer, Modern, Legacy, Vintage, Pauper, and Commander. As a Standard release, its cards will remain legal in the format for three full years.

Although this is a Universes Beyond crossover and not a traditional Magic set (meaning we won’t see any Planeswalkers), fans can expect a huge number of legendary creatures drawn from Spider-Man’s extensive cast of allies and villains. Between classic characters and dynamic new mechanics, this set is shaping up to be one of the most creative takes on the multiverse yet.

What Is MTG | Marvel’s Spider-Man?

Marvel's Spider Man Bundle

MTG | Marvel’s Spider-Man is a Standard-legal set and part of the Universes Beyond series. That means you can expect full legal playability in Standard, Pioneer, Modern, Legacy, Vintage, Pauper, and of course, Commander. Though Spider-Man won’t bring Planeswalkers into the mix, we’ll see a rich lineup of legendary creatures, iconic Marvel villains, and creative mechanics designed to feel right at home in both comic panels and Magic games.

Cards from the set will remain Standard-legal for three years. Meanwhile, its influence on Commander will likely last a lifetime.

New Mechanics: Web-Slinging, Mayhem & Villains

  • Web-Slinging: A flexible mechanic similar to Ninjutsu, Web-slinging lets you cast spells for an alternate cost by returning a tapped creature to your hand. It allows for pseudo-vigilance tricks and tempo plays without being tied to combat damage.
  • Mayhem: This mechanic allows you to cast cards you discarded earlier that turn—but only during normal timing windows. It’s like a tamer version of Madness and encourages creative hand-discard strategies.
  • Villains Matter: A new creature type “Villain” appears throughout the set. Cards like Tombstone, Career Criminal give villain cards tribal synergy, suggesting a dedicated archetype for fans of the bad guys.
  • Drafting: This set introduces Pick-Two Draft, a four-player limited experience where players pick two cards per pack pass. This change is expected to make for faster and more dynamic drafts, but we’ll know more after release.

MTG Marvel’s Spider-Man Highlighted Cards

Spider Man, Peter Parker

Peter Parker / Amazing Spider-Man: Peter Parker enters the battlefield alongside a 2/1 Spider creature token with reach, giving you early board presence and aerial defense. He can transform into Amazing Spider-Man, a vigilant, reach-heavy legendary creature that enables Web-slinging for your multicolored legendary spells. This transformation adds both flavor and synergy, allowing you to cheat out powerful cards while keeping the board under control.

Gwen Stacy MTG Spider Man

Gwen Stacy / Ghost-Spider: When Gwen Stacy enters play, she exiles the top card of your library and lets you play it for as long as you control her—offering excellent card advantage. Once transformed into Ghost-Spider, she becomes a 4/4 with flying, vigilance, and haste. She thrives in exile-based strategies, gaining +1/+1 counters when you play from exile and letting you exile more cards by removing counters. She’s a flexible tempo engine and a strong contender for Jeskai exile-themed Commander decks.

Miles Morales MTG Spider Man

Miles Morales / Ultimate Spider-Man: Miles Morales supports your board by distributing +1/+1 counters to up to two target creatures, setting up a strong transformation into Ultimate Spider-Man. Once transformed, he becomes a lethal attacker with first strike and haste. His ability to pay mana to gain hexproof and add more counters makes him difficult to remove, and when he attacks, he doubles all counters on Spiders and legendary creatures you control—potentially overwhelming your opponent in a single swing.

Spider Punk

Spider-Punk: Spider-Punk brings the aggressive energy of Riot into the Spider-Verse. Not only does he give Riot to your other Spider creatures, he also shuts down counterspells and damage prevention effects. This makes him a disruptive force in any deck, especially those that want to keep the pressure on while limiting interaction from opponents. Spider-Punk is tailor-made for hyper-aggressive strategies.

Doctor Octopus, Master Planner

Doctor Octopus, Master Planner: A true villainous powerhouse, Doctor Octopus is a seven-mana control finisher who offers a suite of effects. He gives all your Villain creatures +2/+2, increases your maximum hand size to eight, and draws you cards during your upkeep until you reach that maximum. He’s an engine in himself and a strong candidate for any control deck that wants to go big—particularly in Commander, where value and hand size matter more than speed.

Anti Venom, Horrifying Healer

Anti-Venom, Horrifying Healer: Anti-Venom is a mono-white creature with graveyard recursion that’s both flavorful and functional. When cast, he allows you to return another creature from your graveyard to the battlefield. But his most unique trait is his damage replacement ability: instead of taking damage, he gains that many +1/+1 counters. In the right shell, Anti-Venom can grow into a monstrous threat while keeping your life total intact—possibly redefining mono-white’s role in control and midrange decks.

MTG | Marvel’s Spider-Man isn’t just another Universes Beyond crossover—it’s shaping up to be one of the most innovative and visually unique Magic: The Gathering sets ever released. From mechanical freshness to art that pays homage to decades of comic legacy, the Spider-Verse is ready to weave itself into Magic canon.

Whether you’re building a Venom tribal deck or snapping open Collector Boosters for those Spiderweb lands, there’s something here for everyone. With previews beginning September 1st, and prereleases starting September 19th, it’s almost time to suit up.
