Magic: The Gathering – Schedule for Upcoming Sets and Reprints

Magic: The Gathering is having an absolutely stacked 2026, with five major set releases spread across the entire year. Two of those sets are Universes Beyond crossovers with Marvel and Star Trek, two of the biggest entertainment IPs on the planet, while The Hobbit continues the wildly successful Middle-earth collaboration that started with Tales of Middle-earth.

On the Magic lore side, Secrets of Strixhaven brings us back to the beloved magical university on Arcavios, and Reality Fracture looks to shake up the entire Multiverse storyline in a big way. With releases dropping nearly every two months from April through November, 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most expensive years to be a Magic player.

Magic: The Gathering – Secrets of Strixhaven

Release Date: Tabletop April 24, 2026 | Arena April 21, 2026

MTG Secrets of Strixhaven Play Booster Display

We’re heading back to Arcavios and the halls of Strixhaven, the most prestigious magical university in the entire Multiverse, and this time the set is pulling from the novel Strixhaven: Omens of Chaos. All five colleges are back in the spotlight, so Silverquill, Prismari, Witherbloom, Lorehold, and Quandrix fans are all getting some love here.

The Mystical Archive returns as a subset of powerful spells with those gorgeous unique frames that players went absolutely wild for back in the original set. On top of that, new “Elder Dragon” and “Field Notes” borderless treatments are showing up for the five college themes, which means Collector Boosters are going to be absolutely gorgeous.

Magic: The Gathering – Marvel Super Heroes

Release Date: June 26, 2026 | Prerelease: June 19-25, 2026

MTG Marvel Super Heroes Play Boosters

Following the surprise success of the Spider-Man drop, Wizards is going all in with a full Marvel Super Heroes expansion, and this one is a massive scale-up from anything we’ve seen in the Universes Beyond line before. The Commander preconstructed decks are headlined by the Fantastic Four, with Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, and The Thing all serving as face cards, which is a pretty incredible lineup for anyone who grew up with those characters.

Beyond the main set, there’s a special “God of Mischief” event planned for July that brings in Loki-themed mechanics, so the hype isn’t even going to die down after release weekend. This one is going to bring in a whole new wave of players who never touched a Magic card before, so expect prices on anything Marvel-adjacent to get spicy fast.

Magic: The Gathering – The Hobbit

Release Date: August 14, 2026

MTG The Hobbit

Hot off the massive success of Tales of Middle-earth, Wizards is narrowing the focus this time to follow Bilbo Baggins on his iconic journey, and that’s a great call because the Hobbit story has some of the most recognizable moments in all of fantasy. Expect to see fan favorites like Thorin Oakenshield, Smaug, and a younger, adventure-ready Bilbo taking center stage as the headliners of this set. Collector Booster boxes are already being hyped up as must-haves, with unique treatments drawing from the cozy aesthetics of the Shire alongside the dramatic grandeur of the Lonely Mountain. If the Lord of the Rings set was any indication of what Wizards can do with Middle-earth, this one is going to be an absolute slam dunk.

Magic: The Gathering – Reality Fracture

Release Date: October 2, 2026 | Arena: September 29, 2026

MTG Reality Fracture

Reality Fracture looks like it’s shaping up to be the big tentpole story set for fall 2026, dealing with the fallout from the Multiverse’s shifting boundaries, and the tagline “The Multiverse Meets its Match” is not playing games with its ambitions. This feels like the kind of set where major story consequences actually stick, so lore lovers are going to want to pay close attention when the previews start rolling in. Prerelease events kick off on September 25, giving players the earliest possible chance to crack packs before the official October 2 tabletop release, with MTG Arena getting it a few days early on September 29. High-stakes story sets like this tend to generate some of the most memorable cards in the game’s history, so don’t sleep on this one.

Magic: The Gathering – Star Trek

Release Date: November 20, 2026

MTG Star Trek

Rounding out the year in a huge way, the Star Trek Universes Beyond set is bringing one of the most beloved sci-fi franchises in history into the Magic system, and it’s reportedly going to span a broad range of the Star Trek timeline rather than focusing on just one series or era. Teaser trailers are already leaning hard into the “The ship is yours, Captain” theme, strongly hinting that mechanics around crew management and ship-based combat are going to be a core part of how the set plays. A set that can translate the feeling of commanding a starship crew through actual gameplay mechanics sounds like it could be something really special for both Magic fans and Trekkies. Ending 2026 on this note feels like Wizards wants to make sure the hype train never fully stops, and honestly? It’s working.

Between the return to Strixhaven, a giant Marvel blowout, another Middle-earth adventure, a massive multiverse story event, and a Star Trek finale, 2026 is genuinely one of the most stacked years in Magic’s history. Marvel Super Heroes is almost certainly the most anticipated set of the bunch given the sheer IP weight behind it, but make no mistake, the Hobbit Collector Boosters and a Marvel crossover of this scale are the two releases most likely to absolutely crash the secondary market.
